Dr. Fahd Jowhari is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of British Columbia and an interventional gastroenterologist. He specializes in advanced endoscopic procedures including ERCP, Spyglass cholangioscopy/pancreatoscopy, Diagnostic and Therapeutic EUS (including gastric variceal coiling/glueing, cyst gastrostomies, liver biopsies and celiac plexus neurolyses/blocks), luminal stenting and advanced polypectomies.

Originally from Calgary, Dr. Jowhari completed his undergrad at the University of Calgary majoring in Physics and Biological Sciences. He then obtained his medical degree from the University of Calgary, becoming a proud Blobfish! In 2012, he moved out east to Kingston, Ontario, where he completed his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology Fellowship at Queen’s University. He subsequently completed an Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy fellowship at the University of Ottawa before moving to BC in 2018 and calling Kelowna his new home.

During his training and after, Dr. Jowhari has been involved in several research projects that were presented at national and international meetings, and he is actively involved in research with students at UBC. He won the Ivan Beck research award in Digestive Diseases while at Queen’s university, and his bidirectional study won the Thomson William’s award for the best paper accepted for publication by JCAG in 2019. His research and educational interests include improvement in medical education; ergonomics in the endoscopy suite; quality, performance and outcomes of endoscopy; and minimally invasive therapeutic endoscopy.

In his spare time, he loves to travel, cook and enjoy nature through his own eyes or the lens of his camera. He can write backwards, too- a talent he has not found incredibly rewarding to date!
